Jelani Bonner has been selected as Ave Maria’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 18th, 2015. This is the fifth time this season that Jelani has received the weekly honor. He was also named Sun Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

The senior forward averaged 19.5 points and 12 rebounds in two games this week for the Gyrenes. He recorded double-doubles in both games. He finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds in AMU's double-overtime loss to #24 Southeastern before following that up with a 17 point, 13 board effort at Florida Memorial on Saturday. On the week, he shot 54.8 percent from the field.

The Gyrenes return to action on Tuesday when they travel to take on the Seahawks of Northwood University. Tip off for the conference tilt is slated for 7p.m.
