Volleyball's Lexy Smith has been named this week's Co-Female Athlete of the Week. It's the first time this season that she has been named the Gyrenes Female Athlete of the Week.Â
Lexy recorded 51 kills, 9 solo blocks, and 7 block assists over the weekend to lead Ave Maria to a 4-0 showing at the Edward Waters Invitational. In the weekend opener against Florida Memorial, she tallied six solo blocks and two block assists. Against Tougaloo she recorded 19 kills over four sets. On the season, Smith has 71 kills and 23 total blocks (13 solo, 10 assists) over six matches (19 sets) and is hitting at a .367 clip.
The Lady Gyrenes return to action this weekend when they travel to Lake Wales, Fla., to take part in the Warner Labor Day Invitational. The Blue and Green will face Central Methodist (Mo.) and Florida National on Friday before facing Dickinson State (N.D.) on Saturday.
