Akii Dean has been selected as Ave Maria's Male Athlete of the Week ending January 20th, 2012. Dean, a junior guard out of Orlando, Fla., averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on the week against two nationally ranked opponents. He played all 40 minutes and led all scorers with a career-high 31 points in the Gyrenes 95-89 win over #9 Embry-Riddle. He has helped the Gyrenes to #6 in the NAIA in total rebound defense (29.94) and field goal percentage (0.496), as well as #7 in steals per game (10.83).
The Gyrenes return to the court on Wednesday, January 23rd when they face off against Webber International University at the Tom Golisano Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7p.m.
