AVE MARIA, Fla. --- Ave Maria took control early and never looked back against the short-handed College of Faith Warriors on Saturday afternoon en route to a 52-0 win. The shut out is the first in Ave Maria's short history.
The Gyrenes showed some trickery early on with Scott Jones taking the hand off and then completing a pass to Travis Makauskas for 29 yards and a touchdown to put Ave Maria up 7-0, 1:31 into the game.
Dashawn Smith got into the action midway through the opening quarter with an 11-yard touchdown jaunt to put the Gyrenes up 14-0.
After a safety resulting from a bad snap, the Gyrenes got the ball back with good field position and took advantage. Less than a minute after the safety, Clayton Uecker found Makauskas for 37 yards and the wide receiver's second touchdown of the game.
Kaleb Coffee added a touchdown run midway through he second quarter before a string of three-straight Gabe Allan touchdown runs put the Gyrenes up 50-0. Another safety with 2:30 remaining in the game made the final 52-0.
Allan finished with four carries for 11 yards and three touchdowns. Dashawn Smith ran for a team high 46 yards and one touchdown.
The Gyrene defense held College of Faith to 13 yards of total offense and -33 net rushing yards on 16 attempts.
Ave Maria finished with 249 yards of total offense including 138 yards in the air.
The Gyrenes continue their four-game home stand on Oct. 26 when they host Webber International at AMU Football Field at 1 p.m.
