Uecker, Jones Lead Ave Maria Rout Of Point University, 56-19

WEST POINT, Ga. --- Freshman quarterback Clayton Uecker threw for 336 yards and four touchdowns passes and Scott Jones had three touchdowns on the ground to lead Ave Maria (7-2) to a 56-19 rout at Point University (3-6) on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Uecker finished the game 28-for-43 for 336 yards, no interception and four touchdown passes. Thirteen different wide receivers caught a pass in the win.
 
Dan Mervos, Travis Makauskas, Dayshaun Womble and Richard Shockley each had touchdown receptions. Karim Bryant led all receivers in catches and yardage with six receptions for 106 yards, highlighted by a 78-yard catch and run.
 
Scott Jones finished with nine rushes for 42 yards and three touchdown for the Blue and Green. Dashawn Smith finished with 33 yards on the ground and a touchdown. 
 
The Gyrenes played a near perfect first half, scoring a touchdown on six of their eight first half drives. Jones had the Gyrenes first two scores to put Ave Maria up 14-6.
 
Uecker then led the Gyrenes to touchdown drives on three of their next four possessions, connecting with Shockley, Makauskas and Mervos for touchdowns to put Ave Maria up 35-6.
 
After a Point University touchdown, Scott Jones capped off the first half with a one-yard touchdown run to put the Gyrenes ahead 42-12 at the break.
 
Dashawn Smith had a 24-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and Dayshaun Womble caught a 12-yard pass from Uecker in the fourth to make the final 56-19.
 
The Gyrene defense forced four Point University fumbles, recovering three, and had three interceptions in the win.
 
Tanner Bowling finished with six solo tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery while Kurtis Joseph had four solo and one assist tackles, including three tackles for a loss.
 
The Gyrenes have won seven consecutive games and will go for number eight in their season final next week at Newport News Apprentice School.
