Eagles Too Much To Handle

IMMOKALEE, Fla. – The first home game of the 2013 season didn't go quite as planned for the Gyrenes on Saturday afternoon at
Gary Bates Stadium of Immokalee High School. Faulkner University proved too much to handle for AMU on both sides of the ball
as the Eagles rolled 47-7.

Faulkner jumped out to an early lead when the Eagle defense forced an AMU fumble in the opening minute of the first quarter.
Mitchell Hoskins recovered it for 23 yards and the Eagles first touchdown of the game. The Eagles would go on to score three more
touchdowns in the half and never looked back.

Ave Maria's only score of the game came on Lazaro Herrera's 45 yard run that capped a 73 yard drive in the second quarter.
The AMU offense could not get hot, with just 222 total yards on the day. Quarterback Clayton Uecker completed 13-26 passes for
97 yards. Karim Bryant led the receiving core with one catch for 20 yards. Herrera tallied 15 carries for 71 yards on the day and the
Gyrenes lone touchdown.

Kurt Joseph led the AMU defense with 12 total tackles, six solo and six assisted with 1.5 coming for a loss. Gage Hayes chipped in
with seven tackles of his own, six of them solo.

The Faulkner offense, led by the 321 passing yards and three touchdown tosses from quarterback Josh Hollingsworth, amassed
585 total yards. Wide receiver A.J. Stevenson had five catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles. Demetre Baker led
the ground attack with 60 yards and a touchdown.

The Gyrenes will return to the field in three weeks when they travel to Lake Wales, Fla. to take on Warner University. Kick-off is slated
for 1p.m. on September 28th.
