Gyrenes Set For Two Sun Conference Battles

AVE MARIA, Fla. – The AMU men's soccer team returns to the pitch this week, taking on two TSC opponents. The Blue and Green will conclude their weekly schedule, traveling to Miami Gardens to take on Saint Thomas University on Saturday afternoon.

Scouting Ave Maria 1-7 (0-5 Sun Conference)
Head Coach: Ray Morgan (Second Season)

The Gyrenes will look to kick start their offense, which has been slowed as of late, when they take on Florida Memorial and Saint Thomas this week. The AMU offense will be going up against two defenses which allow nearly two goals per contest. Senior goalkeeper JC Intriago currently ranks fifth in the Sun Conference with 37 saves, averaging nearly five per contest.

Opponent: Florida Memorial University Lions
Date: Thursday, October 16, 2014
Opening Kick: 6:30 pm
Location: North Park Athletic Complex, Ave Maria University

Scouting Florida Memorial (6-5) (3-2 Sun Conference)
Head Coach: Fernando Valenzuela

The Lions will enter action versus the Gyrenes in fifth place in the Sun Conference. Florida Memorial is responsible for one of the bigger upsets of the season, defeating number one ranked and previously undefeated TSC opponent Thomas University last week. Marco Perreta has been the leader of the FMU offense, having found the back of the net six times. In addition, Perreta's 14 points lead the Lions.

Opponent: Saint Thomas University Bobcats
Date: Saturday, October 18, 2014
Opening Kick: 4:00pm
Location: Saint Thomas University, Miami Gardens, Fla.

Scouting Saint Thomas (1-11) (1- 4 Sun Conference)
Head Coach: Felix Mats

AMU will head into battle with the Bobcats, looking to overcome the 2-1 defeat at the hands of STU last season. The Gyrenes defense will look to continue to exploit the offensive woes of Saint Thomas, who will enter action averaging about one goal per contest through its first 12 games played. Marcelo Norton and Orlando Lawrence lead the Bobcats offense with three goals apiece. The offense of the Gyrenes will look to find its rhythm early against STU, whose defense is allowing nearly three goals per match.
