Lady Gyrenes stopped by St. Thomas

 AVE MARIA, Fla. – St. Thomas University played a strong offensive second half to lift the Bobcats to a 2-0 win over the Ave Maria University soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Sun Conference action at North Park.
 
Saturday's game featured a scoreless first half, with the two teams fairly evenly matched. The Bobcats took seven first-half shots to five by the Gyrenes and the game entered halftime knotted at zero.
 
The Bobcats put their first goal on the board in the 56th minute by Zelda Jagryd. Less than two minutes later, Sarah Thomsson was able to beat her defender and put St. Thomas ahead 2-0.

St. Thomas finished with an 18-7 advantage in total shots, 10-5 in shots on goal and 2-0 in corner kicks. Francesca Singleton (Manchester, United Kingdom) had a standout game for the Gyrenes with 8 total saves on the afternoon.
 
St. Thomas improved to 7-6-1 overall on the season and 3-4 in conference play. Ave Maria University is now 3-8 overall and 0-7 in the Sun Conference.
 
AMU returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 21, hosting Clearwater Christian College in a non-conference contest beginning at 4 p.m. at the AMU Soccer field.
