AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Gyrenes used a big second half to pull away from Florida College 80-59 on Saturday night led by Jelani Bonner's double-double (24 pts., 13 reb.). With the win, AMU improves to 4-1 on the season.

Bonner scored 22 points on 10-of-10 shooting from the field. He was 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Bonner also collected a game-high 13 rebounds (six offensive, seven defensive) in 34 minutes of play.

Wendell Powell finished with 20 points and four rebounds. Exor Torres and Brandon Dean each added eight points for the Gyrenes.

AMU came out firing, jumping out to a 15-7 lead less than five minutes into the game. The rest of the half went back-and-forth with the Blue and Green holding a slim 36-34 lead at the break.

Leading by six, 50-44, with 14:39 remaining, AMU went on an 18-3 run over the next six minutes to break the game open. The Blue and Green maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the game, cruising to a 80-59 win.

The Gyrenes return to action on Friday, Nov. 21, when they host Trinity College (Fla.). The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
