AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's basketball team opens their 2014-15 season on Monday night when they travel to Trinity, Fla. to take on Trinity College at 7 p.m.
Later in the week, the Gyrenes travel to Clearwater Christian on Thursday before returning to Tom Golisano Field House to take on NCAA DIII Covenant College (Ga.) on Saturday at 8 p.m.
The Gyrenes return several key players from their 2013-14 squad that will help them build off a 12-19 season that saw them fall in the second round of the Sun Conference tournament to St. Thomas.
Wendell Powell averaged 12.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in 23 games played last season for AMU. He also led the Blue and Green with 21 blocks.
Jelani Bonner led the team in total rebounds with 149 while averaging 7.1 points per contest. With 80 assists, Ralph Erickson returns as the Gyrenes leader in assist. He also averaged 8.4 points per game.
