LAKELAND, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team fell to Southeastern in three sets (14-25, 17-25, 24-26) on Friday night. The Blue and Green wrap up their 2014 season on Saturday when they travel to Daytona Beach to take on Embry-Riddle.

Lexy Smith led the Lady Gyrenes with a match-high 13 kills on the night. Lexy Smith also recorded two solo blocks and two block assists. Jessica Schein tallied 11 assists and Marie Mendez finished with 10 digs, both team highs.

AMU stayed with the Fire to begin the opening set, trailing by just two at 15-13 before Southeastern took 10 of the last 11 points to take the set 25-14. In the second set, Southeastern used a seven point run to take a 17-7 lead on AMU. The Lady Gyrenes cut the deficit in half, 20-15, before the Fire were able to close out the set, 25-17.

The teams went back and forth for a majority of the third set. Trailing 23-21, AMU won three straight points to get a set point before a serving error knotted the match at 24-all. Southeastern won the final two points to win the set.
