Official Results WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's and women's cross country teams traveled to the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla. on Saturday for the 2014 Sun Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Northwood University.
Embry-Riddle took home the men's team title and the conference bid to nationals, while SCAD-Savannah recorded a runner up finish. SCAD Savannah took home the team title on the women's side and picked up the nod to NAIA Nationals, while Embry-Riddle edged USC-Beaufort for the runner-up slot.
The Championships featured all 11 colleges and universities of the NAIA's Sun Conference who sponsor cross country. The Lady Gyrenes secured a fifth place finish, while the men's squad tallied a seventh place finish out of the 11-team field.
The AMU men were led by junior
Trevor Coules (29:09.55) who finished 33
rd overall, closely followed by
Thomas Mullally (29:21.57) in 35
th place. Freshmen
Ethan Weltens (30:33.83),
Ethan Weltens (30:58.92), and
Kyle Dujakovich (31:05.18) rounded out the five placers for the Green and Blue.
The women's team was led by freshman
Brigid Lennon (22:05.00) who finished 35
th overall.
Lauren Dunleavy (22:25.89) and
Patricia Madeleine Conley (22:28.20) packed the two and three punch for the Lady Gyrenes, while
Gianna Gambera (23:14.62) and
Gianna Gambera (23:44.15) rounded out the five placers. Â
Three AMU runners were named to the 2014 TSC All-Academic Team. Thomas Mullally, Madeleine Conley, and Gianna Gambera were each named to the team for their accomplishments in the classroom. To be eligible for Academic All-Conference consideration, student-athletes must have attended their respective institutions for at least two semesters and have achieved a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average.
