AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's basketball team will welcome Sun Conference foe Johnson & Wales on Tuesday night before concluding the week with a Sunday matinee against College of Coastal Georgia. The Gyrenes enter the week with a 5-3 overall record and a 0-1 mark in TSC play.
The Blue and Green are coming off a 56-43 loss at Webber International. The Gyrenes shot 30.2 percent in the game and went 5-of-23 from behind the arc.
Eric Richardson finished with a team-high 15 points to go along with three rebounds. Brandon Pasker chipped in eight points for AMU. Jelani Bonner grabbed a team-leading 14 rebounds.
The 43 points were a season-low for the Gyrenes and the .302 field goal percentage was just the second time this season that AMU made less than 38 percent of their field goal attempts in a game.
On the defensive end, the Blue and Green continued to play strong. The Gyrenes have yet to allow an opponent to score more then 59 points in a game. The Gyrenes have also held eight of their nine opponents to under 37 percent shooting from the floor.
Scouting Johnson & WalesTuesday, December 9 | 7:30 p.m. Johnson & Wales enters Tuesdays contest with a 6-2 overall record and a 0-1 record in Sun Conference action. The Wildcats lost their TSC opener at home to Northwood on Saturday 94-65.
Ricardo Suarez is the player to watch for JWU. Suarez leads the team in points (14.29 ppg), rebounds (7.14 rpg), and steals (1.57 spg). It will be a matchup of conflicting styles, with the Wildcats averaging 76 points per game against the Gyrenes stingy defense.
Scouting Coastal GeorgiaSunday, December 14 | 4 p.m. Coastal Georgia is off to a 3-7 start to the 2014-15 season and come into the week on a three-game slide. Coastal Georgia has played a couple games against TSC members, falling to St. Thomas and defeating Southeastern.
Reggie Burke will lead Coastal Georgia into Tom Golisano Field House. The 6-2 guard is averaging 19.2 points and 2.9 assists per game, both team highs. Andrew Reid is also averaging in double-figures with 13 points per game. Darrean Wyatt will be a force down low, as the 6-8 forward is averaging 9.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest.
