AVE MARIA, Fla.— The Ave Maria men's soccer team (1-2) played their first game on the new soccer field on the campus of Ave Maria University and came out on top as they defeated the visiting Tigers of Trinity College (Fla.) 15-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue and Green put on an offensive show with 10 different players finding the back of the net. The Gyrenes scored fast and often and shared the ball well in this fast-paced offensive game that had them assisting on 9 of the 15 goals scored. AMU was led by Resam Moghimi (Auckland, New Zealand), Carl Bishop (Frodsham Cheshire, England), and Alvaro Gomez-Garcia (Guayaquil, Ecuador) who each had two goals and an assist on the afternoon.
Ivan Zigarevich (Palm Harbor, Fla.) had his first career goal as a Gyrene.
"We came out ready and are now focused on conference play. It was a nice win for us and everyone got a chance to play," stated head coach Ray Morgan.
The Blue and Green outshot the Tigers 45-1, while the Trinity goalkeeper collected 16 saves in the net.
Ave Maria will be back in action on Wednesday, September 17, when they will play Trinity College (Fla.) once again to finish this home and away series with the Tigers. The game is set for 7 p.m. in Trinity, Fla.
