TSC Play Set To Begin For AMU Men’s Soccer

AVE MARIA, Fla. –  The Gyrenes begin the Sun Conference portion of their 2014 schedule this week, when they welcome the second ranked nationally Thomas University Nighthawks and the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Bees to Ave Maria.

Scouting Ave Maria 1-2 (0-0 Sun Conference)
Head Coach: Ray Morgan (Second Season)

The Gyrenes will need to keep the offensive outburst they received against Trinity College (Fla.) if they plan on defending their home turf this week. The AMU offense has tallied 17 goals through their first three game of the 2014 season and has been led offensively by Dan Lomady and Alvaro Gomez-Garcia. Lomady and Gomez-Garcia are tied for the team lead in points with six and have each registered two goals through the first three games.

Opponent: #2 Thomas University Nighthawks (Ga.)
Date: Thursday, September 25, 2014
Opening Kick: 6:00pm
Location: North Park Athletic Complex, Ave Maria University

Scouting Thomas (Ga.) (5-0-2) (0-0 Sun Conference)
Head Coach: Ricky Zambrano (Seventh Season)

The Nighthawks will enter play riding an eleven game overall unbeaten streak, dating back to last season. The Thomas offense will be led by Jonathan McGrath and Lyle Gifford. McGrath who is just a freshman has already registered five goals through the first seven games this season. Gifford, a junior midfielder, is tied for the team lead in points (11) with McGrath. The high-powered offense of the Nighthawks is averaging nearly two and half goals per game, while allowing just over one goal per contest.

Opponent: Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)
Date: Saturday, September 27, 2014
Opening Kick: 6:30pm
Location: North Park Athletic Complex, Ave Maria University

Scouting SCAD Bees (1-2-1) (0-0 Sun Conference)
Head Coach: Tom Melville (Sixth Season)

The Bees will travel to Ave Maria, looking to jumpstart their season and make a run back to the TSC tournament. In their meeting last season, SCAD was able to shutout the Gyrenes on their way to a 4-0 victory. If the Bees are going to leave AMU with a victory look for Torin Melville, Sergi Sauras and Jordan Trinci-Lyne to lead the way. The trio of Bees have accounted for all of the goals scored by the SCAD offense this season.
