Lady Gyrenes drop a 71-67 decision at Johnson & Wales

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team was defeated by conference opponent Johnson & Wales University 67-71. The Gyrenes fall to 2-8 in the Sun Conference and 11-11 overall on the season.

The Blue and Green will return to the court on Saturday night at the Tom Golisano field house where they will play TSC #1 ranked Webber University at 5:00 p.m.
Madison McDonald scored 22 points, including her 1,000 career point on a mid-range jumper late in the first half. Annie Artise and Taylor Lindsey also scored in double figures with 10 points and 11 points. Yvanessa Vincent had another strong defensive game tearing down 12 total rebounds. Vincent also scored eight points.

The score stayed relatively close for most of the first half with AMU leading for almost the entire half. With seven minutes to go in the first half; AMU had built a 10 point lead. Johnson & Wales went on a 10-0 in the next four minutes to tie the game 24-24 with 3:30 left to go in the first half. The Blue and Green went into the locker room with a narrow lead 32-28. The sharp outside shooting of McDonald, Artise, and Lindsey had AMU shooting 40% from 3 point range in the first half.

Both teams shot extremely well in the second half; with Johnson & wales shooting 56% and AMU at 58%. The Wildcats had a narrow 27-26 advantage in rebounds. Both teams had 11 turnovers in the game. Four players scored in double figures for the Wildcats with Kristina Bridges leading the way with 12 points, eight assists, and six rebounds.
