AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's basketball team dropped a 50-42 decision against Webber International on Saturday night. The Gyrenes held a two-point halftime lead before a 14-point second half allowed the Warriors to steal a victory in Tom Golisano Field House.

The Blue and Green drop to 9-13 overall and 2-9 in Sun Conference play. The Warriors move to 9-14 overall and 6-5 in TSC action.

AMU returns to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 4, when they host Embry-Riddle at 7:30 p.m.

Brandon Dean led the Gyrenes with 17 points on the night. He also grabbed seven boards. Jelani Bonner recorded a game-high 13 rebounds to go with five points. Wendell Powell scored five points and tallied 10 rebounds.

Brian Pace led the Warriors with 21 points and six rebounds. Dewaine Lewis also scored in double-figures with 12 points for Webber.

The Gyrenes came out firing on both ends of the court, jumping out to a 17-7 lead nine minutes into the game. A few minutes later, Dean hit one of his five treys on the night to extend the AMU lead to 12, 21-9. Webber began to chip away at the AMU advantage and cut it to two, 28-26, at the half.

Webber opened the second half on a 9-2 run to take a 35-30 lead just over five minutes into the second half. The Warriors extended their lead to 11, 48-37, with 2:36 to play. The Gyrenes were unable to make a comeback eventually falling, 50-42.
