Men's Soccer Fall in Overtime

Box Score Ave Maria, FL—Saturday afternoon, Ave Maria University Men's Soccer hosted the Keiser Seahawks. Although the Gyrenes were defeated 3-2 in overtime it was what may have been one of the most exciting finishes of the season.

In the early goings play was tight and physical. Dan Lomady (Willow Grove, Pa.) got the blue and green on the board first with a goal coming at 15:34. The Seahawks Shoval Failer (Ness-Zona, Israel) had a quick answer, knotting the score a 1-1, just three minutes later.

The score would remain 1-1 deep into the second half of play, where the action picked up once again.

In the 86th minute, Keiser's Jesse Alves (Krystal River, Fla.) put his team on top with what seemed to be the deciding goal. The Gyrenes would not go quietly, as just 30 seconds later Fabbio Bucco (Guayaquil, Ecudaor) sent a shot to the back of the net and brought the score to 2-2.

Time would expire in regulation with the score 2-2 and for the first time in 2015 the two teams headed into overtime with the emotions of the final minutes still riding high.

In heartbreaking fashion for Ave Maria, Shoval Failer struck again, this time just under a minute into the overtime period to give Keiser a 3-2 win.

After a thrilling match on Saturday, AMU men's soccer will be back in action on Thursday for another Sun Conference match against Florida Memorial. You can follow all of the upcoming action live at avemariagyrenes.com.
