AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's basketball team dropped an 80-59 decision against Florida National on Monday night. AMU trailed by two at the half before a barrage of threes by Florida National put the Conquistadors in front for good.
Nate Krimsky led the Blue and Green with 15 points and two blocks. Exor Torres and Martez Harris each added 13 points and seven boards. Torres also finished with four assists and four steals.
Quantavis Hall led four Conquistadors in double-figures with 22 points. Marcus Morris finished with a game-high eight rebounds to go along with 2 points.
The Gyrenes shot 41.2 percent for the game and were 4-of-19 from three. FNU made 51 percent of their shots and went 9-of-20 from behind the arc. All nine of Florida National's threes came in the second half. The Conquistadors held a 26-14 advantage in points off turnovers on the night.
The Blue and Green jumped out to an early lead in the game on back-to-back threes by Harris and Torres followed by an old-fashioned three point play by Harris to make the score 13-6 AMU. The Gyrenes held that advantage for most of the remainder of the half before Florida National broke a 33-33 tie with 10 seconds remaining on a Hall jumper. Florida National took a 35-33 lead into the half.
Florida National was able to build small lead early in the second half and then made nine threes over the final 16 minutes to pull away from the Gyrenes. The Conquistadors went on to take the game 80-59.
The Gyrenes return to the court on Thursday when they travel to Florida Atlantic for an exhibition match beginning at 7 p.m.
