AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team couldn't hold off a Keiser fourth quarter rally as AMU fell to the visiting Seahawks 62-56 on Wednesday night. The Lady Gyrenes drop to 5-3 on the season and to 0-2 against Sun Conference opponents.

Annie Artise tallied a team-high 20 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Lauren Gillingham came up just short of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds in 36 minutes. Taylor Lindsey finished with a game-high seven assists.

Keiser's Dominique Winbush led the Seahawks with 20 points and five rebounds. Desirai Smith (16) and Courtney Murphy (14) also finished in double-figures for Keiser.

Ave Maria shot 28.6 percent in the game and were 6-of-27 from behind the arc. Keiser shot 47.2 percent from the field. AMU outrebounded Keiser 36-25. The Seahawks held a 42-22 advantage in point in the paint.

Keiser led the entire opening half and used a 12-2 run over the final three minutes of the quarter to take a 22-10 edge. The Lady Gyrenes were able to cut into the deficit some in the second quarter, outscoring Keiser 13-9 in the frame to head into halftime down 31-23.

The third quarter was all AMU. Trailing 39-30 with 3:37 to play in the quarter, the Blue and Green went on a 15-2 run in the final minutes to take a 45-41 lead heading into the fourth. In the fourth Katie Houbolt and Keiser exchanged threes in the early minutes to keep the AMU lead at four and with 3:44 to play a trey by Jasmine Bateman put AMU up six, 56-50. The Seahawks ended the game on a 12-0 run to rally past the Lady Gyrenes 62-56.

AMU gets a couple weeks off for final the winter break before returning to action on Dec. 30 when they travel to Miami Gardens to take on Judson University at 1 p.m. The game is being played at St. Thomas.
