Lady Gyrenes To Host Edward Waters and Palm Beach State

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria Lady Gyrenes softball team will welcome Edward Waters and Palm Beach State College to AMU Softball Field for four-games over three days. The Blue and Green will take on Edward Waters in a doubleheader on Saturday before facing Palm Beach State in a doubleheader on Monday afternoon. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. starts.
 
LADY GYRENES RECAP
 
The Blue and Green split four games at the 2015 Southern Challenge Tournament last weekend in Clermont, Fla. On day one, the Lady Gyrenes defeated Point University, 2-1, before falling to Webber International in a non-conference battle, 3-1. On Saturday, the Blue and Green dropped game one against Middle Georgia College, 2-0, before rebounding for a 7-3 win against Coastal Georgia in their second game of the day.
 
McKayla Jeter leads AMU with a .333 batting average over 18 at-bats. She has one double and three RBI. Emily Blackmore has three hits in seven at-bats with four walks. She has two doubles, two RBI and has scored two runs.
 
In the circle, Benson has been on her game despite a 1-2 record. She has a 1.74 ERA over 20.2 innings pitched. She has allowed eight runs, four of which have been earned, with 19 strikeouts and just four walks. She had a season-high 10 strikeouts in her last outing against Middle Georgia State.

SCOUTING EDWARD WATERS
 
Edward Waters comes into the weekend with a 1-1 overall record after splitting a doubleheader with Brewton-Parker (Ga.). The Lady Tigers face Northwood in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
 
In the first series of the year against Brewton-Parker, Edward Waters scored four runs and allowed six. The team hit at a .218 clip. They had 12 hits in 55 at-bats with one double. They struck out 11 times.
 
SCOUTING PALM BEACH STATE COLLEGE
 
Palm Beach State has played 13 games already this season and is off to a 3-10 start. They have collected wins against South Florida State College, Illinois Central, and South Georgia.
