Baseball Drops Two On Saturday Â
WEST PALM BEACH, FLA – After taking game on of their first Sun conference series against Northwood University, the Ave Maria baseball team lost both games of their Saturday double header against the Seahawks. Game one ended with an 11-0 final after seven innings before a game two thriller that resulted in a loss in the bottom of the ninth.
GAME ONE RECAPThe bats were quiet for the Gyrenes in the first game Saturday as Northwood pitchers Steve Bruce (Flower Mound, Tx.) and Cort Miller (Temple, Tx.) combined for the shutout. Bruce struck out seven Ave Maria hitters and allowed only four hits through six innings. Miller came on in the seventh and tossed and tossed one shutout inning in relief.
Ryan Palenzuela (Miami, Fla.) and Keivan Berges (Wellington, Fla.) each had a team high three RBI's for the Seahawks on their way to the 11-0 win.

GAME TWO RECAPThe final game of the series turned out to be a thriller between the Gyrenes and the Seahawks.
?Ave Maria pitchers Zach Quayle (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Austin Comesanas (Miami, Fla.) both threw 4.1 quality innings, combining to give up only seven hits and five runs.
On the offensive side, Aaron Pigna (Miami, Fla.) and Rico Soto (Naples, Fla.) each had an early RBI to spark the scoring for the Gyrenes. Nick Sacchetta (Naples, Fla) added a solo home run, his fourth of the year.
In the eight inning with the score tied at three runs a piece, Sean Trymbiski (Doylestown, Pa.) came up big for AMU driving a go ahead RBI triple scoring Bobby Oliver (Naples, Fla.) bringing the score to 4-3.
Northwood would rally in the bottom of the ninth, tying the game with an RBI single from Carlos Contreras (Dalls, Tx). With the score tied and two out the game slipped away from the Gyrenes when Ryan Palenzuela ended the game with an RBI single.
