Baseball Set To Host Webber International

Ave Maria, FLA.—This weekend, the Ave Maria Gyrenes baseball team will play host to Sun Conference opponent Webber International University. The three game series is set to take place at Bowie's Ballpark on the campus of Ave Maria University beginning on Friday at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Saturday double header scheduled for an 11 a.m. first pitch.

The Gyrenes
Ave Maria enters the weekend with a 5-6 overall record and a 1-2 record in the Sun Conference after last weekend's series with Northwood. The Gyrenes have been streaky to start the season, dropping their last three contests after winning five in a row.

Reigning Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week, Austin Munn (Lafayette, Ind.), will look to follow up a stellar thirteen strikeout, complete game performance from last weekend with another big outing this week against Webber.

The AMU pitching staff has been throwing it well over their last few games and now boast some quality numbers as they now have totaled 91 strikeouts and only 34 walks in 86.2 innings pitched.
Sun Conference Player of the Week, Tucker Starkey (Mayville, Ky.) leads the Gyrene offense into the weekend after belting three home runs in four games last weekend.

Scouting The Warriors
Webber International begins this weekend with a 6-4 overall record and a 1-2 record in the Sun Conference. They have picked up some quality wins in the early part of the season including one against division II Eckerd College.

The Warriors have a team batting average of .237 with ten doubles through the first ten games of the season. Their pitchers have thrown to the tune of a 3.05 team ERA and a 2.38 batting average against.
In 2014, Webber took two out of three games in their series with Ave Maria, shutting out the Gyrenes in games one and two.
