BABSON PARK, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's basketball team's season came to an end on Tuesday night when the Gyrenes fell to Webber International 71-59 in the opening round of the Sun Conference Tournament Play-In game.

The Gyrenes end the season with an 11-19 overall record and a 4-14 mark in Sun Conference action.

Noah Phillips and Johnny Minervino led the Blue and Green with nine points each. Exor Torres added eight points and four assists. Jelani Bonner finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

The Gyrenes shot 45.2 percent (19-42) from the floor and made 6-of-17 from three. Webber made 24-of-54 from the field (44.4 percent) and made 13 threes. The Gyrenes held the advantage at the free throw line 15-10. AMU outrebounded the Warriors 35-26.

The Blue and Green and the Warriors went back and forth in the opening minutes with the Gyrenes holding a slim 9-8 lead on a Minervino try with 13:53 to play in the opening half. Webber responded with a 16-3 run to take a 24-12 lead on AMU.

The Gyrenes went into the half were able to chip away at the deficit and went into the break trailing by four, 37-33.

With AMU trailing 40-36 in the second half, Webber went on a 14-0 run to take a 54-36 lead with 13:23 to play. A few minutes later, the Webber lead increased to 22, 60-38. The Blue and Green made a late run but weren't able to get closer than the final score of 71-59.
