Lady Gyrenes Fall To Webber, 67-56, In TSC Semifinals

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team fell to Webber International, 67-56, on Friday night in a semifinal matchup of The Sun Conference Tournament. The Blue and Green end the season with a 16-16 overall record and a 6-12 mark in TSC play.
 
The Lady Gyrenes were led by Annie Artise with 16 points and seven rebounds. She also tallied two blocks. Senior Madison McDonald had nine points and three assists. Taylor Lindsey and Yvanessa Vincent each recorded eight points. Vincent also grabbed eight rebounds.
 
After Webber jumped out to a 4-0 lead, the Lady Gyrenes responded with an 11-0 run to take a seven point lead with 14:02 to play in the first half. Webber matched the Blue and Green's 11-0 run with one of their own to retake the lead, 15-11.
 
Webber extended its lead with an 11-3 run over the next few minutes to take a 26-14 advantage with six minutes to play in the first half. AMU was able to chip away at the lead and went into the half trailing the Warriors by seven, 31-24.
 
The Lady Warriors came out firing in the second half and quickly extended their lead over AMU to double-figures, 37-25.
 
The Lady Gyrenes wouldn't give in and battled back to pull within two, 44-42, with 11:17 to play. The Blue and Green weren't able to get the shots to fall down the stretch and Webber made their free throws to close out the game.
 
AMU shot 34.4 percent from the floor and made 6-of-26 from behind the arc. The Lady Gyrenes were outrebounded 51-38 on the night.
