Gyrenes Pick Up First Win Of The Season

AVE MARIA, FLA. – The Ave Maria baseball team picked up their first win of the 2015 season on Friday afternoon against Clearwater Christian College. A strong pitching preformance from junior Austin Munn (Lafayette, Ind.) and Austin Comesanas (Miami, Fla.) propelled the Gyrenes to the 3-1 victory.

Munn led the way for the blue and green, striking out nine and scattering four hits over seven plus innings of work while surrendering just a single run on the way to his first win of the season. Comesanas came on in relief in the eighth inning, after Munn faced one batter, to finish off the Cougars. Comesanas didn't allow a hit and tallied four strikeouts to earn a two inning save.

Freshman pitcher Ryan Broaderick (Seminole, Fla.) took his first loss of the season while going the distance for Clearwater, giving up seven hits and striking out two. Junior outfielder Kevin Stryker (Clearwater, Fla.) had the lone Cougar RBI on the day.

Senior outfielder Bobby Oliver (Naples, Fla.) and freshman shortstop Ryan Keegan (Estero, Fla.) each added an RBI for the Gyrene offense. Nick Sacchetta (Naples, Fla.) launched his second home run of the season, a solo shot, to cap the scoring for Ave Maria.
