BABSON PARK, Fla. --- The Lady Gyrene softball team got strong efforts in the circle by Cheyenne Benson and Emily Lemin to help AMU to a doubleheader sweep of (RV) Webber International on Saturday afternoon. The Blue and Green won game one of the twinbill 5-1 before taking game two 4-1.

In game one, it was Webber who would take the early lead, scoring on an error in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 edge. The Lady Gyrenes were able to break through in the top of the fifth, getting a two-RBI double by Kingsley Avery to score Deanna Stirtzinger and Nikki Woodard.

In the seventh, the Blue and Green added three insurance runs to create some breathing room for Benson. Two runs came in on a Brianna Alonso two-RBI single and the other on an error by Webber.

Benson improved to 6-9 on the season, pitching seven innings while allowing one unearned run on three hits. She struck out three and had no walks in the win.

In game two, AMU took an early advantage on an Alyssa Colding RBI single to bring in Benson. In the third, Colding hit a sacrifice foul out to left field to score Avery followed by a McKayla Jeter single to plate Alonso and Benson to increase the Lady Gyrenes lead to 4-0.

Webber got a run in the bottom of the sixth to make the final 4-1 in favor of the Lady Gyrenes.

Lemin picked up the win for the Lady Gyrenes to improve to 6-5 on the season. She allowed one run on three hits over seven innings. She walked five and struck out five in the win.

The Lady Gyrenes will return to action on Saturday when they welcome Southeastern to AMU Softball Field for two games. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. This will be the first home game AMU since Feb. 25.Â
