Beaufort, S.C.—The Ave Maria baseball team dropped both ends of a Saturday double header against the Sand Sharks of USC- Beaufort (USCB). The two losses take AMU down to 17-23 on the season and a Sun Conference record of 5-11.
GAME 1 RECAPGame one was a lopsided 12-1 victory for USCB over the Gyrenes.
Josh Reinhart (Louisville, Ky.) and Ashly Morris (Savanah, Ga.) were the top offensive performers for the Sand Sharks. Reinhart was the team RBI leader with three and Morris had two RBIs of his own on two hits. John Cloyd (Louisville, Ky.) ended the game in the seventh inning with a pinch hit, two run home run to enforce the ten run rule.
Junior Delatorre (Beaufort, S.C.) earned his fifth win of the season for USCB, pitching all seven innings and striking out seven with just one earned run.
Senior Bobby Olive (Naples, Fla.) had the lone Gyrene RBI in game one.
GAME 2 RECAPIn game two, Morris, Reinhart and Cloyd stole the show again. Reinhart had three RBIs on four hits, while Cloyd added two RBIs on two hits. Morris, who had three hits in game two, ended the game in the seventh inning with a two RBI double, to again enforce the ten run rule.
USCB starter Jamie Strock (Barnwell, S.C.) picked up his fifth win of the season for the Sand Sharks, going seven innings and allowing just one earned run on eight hits.
Aaron Pigna (Miami, Fla.) and Nick Sacchetta (Naples, Fla.) each had an RBI for Ave Maria in game two.
The final score of game two was 12-2.
