Inaugural Lacrosse Season Ends With Loss

Box Score HARDEEVILLE,South Carolina - - The inaugural women's lacrosse season ended this afternoon in the South Regional championship game to SCAD 4-22. SCAD will not advance to the NWLL National Championship on the campus of Lindenwood Belleville.

SCAD struck first as the Bees netted an unassisted goal five minutes into the contest. Ave Maria (3-10) responded less than a minute later, as Catie Cox (Chesterfield, Mo.) took advantage of a Bees' penalty and converted a free position shot to even the score 1-1. Kayla Nelson of SCAD scored two of the next three goals to give SCAD a 4-1 advantage eight minutes into the first half. After another goal from goal from Cox,  SCAD scored 10 unanswered goals to give the Bees a 14-2 lead at the break.

SCAD continued their strong performance in the second half as the defecit proved too large for the Lady Gyrenes to overcome.

Nelson led the Bees with five goals and three assists, while Charlotte Cutts and Sophie Cutts each tallied five points. 

Cox led AMU offensively scoring two goals and picking up four draw controls. 
Lydia Buckley (Saint Louis, Mo.) and Kaylin Mayeski (Naples, Fla.) also scored for the Blue and Green.

Defender,
Kelsey Hughes (Hobe Sound, Fla.) led the defensive unit with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Hannah Camerota (Enfield, Conn.) had seven saves in goal.

The Ave Maria University women's lacrosse team ended their season with a 3-10 overall record.
