Baseball Final Week Outlook

Ave Maria, Fla. – The 2015 Ave Maria baseball season will conclude this week with single game road trips to Barry University and Embry-Riddle University. On Wednesday the Gyrenes will be in Miami Gardens for a midweek showdown with the Buccaneers of Barry University at 6 p.m. The season will conclude with one last trip to Daytona Beach to play the Eagles of Embry-Riddle on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

SCOUTING BARRY UNIVERSITY
Barry University enters Wednesday night's contest with an overall record of 18-24. The NCAA Division II program is 6-12 in The Sunshine State Conference with signature wins against Tampa and Lynn.

As a team, the Buccaneers offense has posted a .307 team batting average in 2015. Ryan Baldwin has been an offensive leader for the Bucs with an impressive .368 average. Johnathan Quintana has provided plenty of power for Berry, blasting seven home runs so for.

On the mound, Joeanthony Rivera and Johnathan Hernandez have been two of the Barry standouts. Rivera has given batters fits, striking out 53 in 50.1 innings of work. Hernandez is the team leader in wins with five.

Wednesday will be the first meeting between the Gyrenes and Buccaneers since 2013. First pitch in Miami Gardens is set for 6 p.m.

SCOUTING EMBRY-RIDDLE UNIVERSITY
Entering the final week of play, AMU has a 21-32 overall record and a 9-18 mark in The Sun Conference. Unfortunately for the Gyrenes, their nine wins in the conference thus far will not be enough to earn them a birth into The Sun Conference playoffs. No matter the outcome of the remaining games in the conference this week, Ave Maria will finish in eight place, one spot above where they finished in 2014.

Sunday will be the final meeting between the Eagles and Gyrenes as members of The Sun Conference, as Embry-Riddle will be making the transition to NCAA Division II next season and will become members of The Sunshine State Conference.

Embry-Riddle is a very familiar opponent for AMU as they have already met twice in 2015. AMU lost both game by scores of 5-4 and 7-2. Sunday's game will be the make up for the final game of the third game of their three game series that was rained out on February 28th.

Sunday's game holds some big implications for Embry. With a win the Eagles will hang on to the number two seed heading into The Sun Conference tournament but a loss to the Gyrenes would drop them into the third spot.

First pitch on Sunday is set for 3 p.m. on Sunday.
