Ave Maria, FL – After picking up their first win of the season, the Ave Maria Men's Soccer team enters their busiest week of the season so far. This past Sunday, head coach Antonio Suave secured his first win in green and blue with a 15-0 thumping of Trinity College. The 1-2 Gyrenes will have little time to dwell on the victory as they now must prepare for 3 matches in 5 days, beginning on Tuesday afternoon.
First up for AMU will be a trip to Hialeah, Fla. For a Tuesday afternoon showdown with Florida National University. Thursday, they will be on the road again as they take on Florida College, a team they played only 2 minutes against to kick off the season before weather kept the match from ever really beginning. The week will conclude on Saturday as the Gyrenes return home for a Saturday afternoon exhibition match with Nova Southeastern, 3 p.m. at North Park.
Scouting Florida NationalFlorida National has played a very busy scheduled with several games against opponents from The Sun Conference. Entering this week, FNU has played their opponents tight, resulting in a 1-3-5 record through 9 games.
The Conquistadors opened the 2015 season with a 1-0 win against Florida Memorial, followed by a 2-2 tie with Keiser University. Since then they have taken on two more Sun Conference teams, earning a tie with Warner before falling to Southeastern.
After watching Florida National play such tight knit contests with other teams from around the conference, the Gyrenes can expect Tuesday to be a test leading into their first conference matches next week.
Scouting Florida CollegeFlorida College carries a young roster this year, made up of seven freshmen, 12 sophomores, three juniors and three seniors.
Much like Ave Maria, Florida College also has a first year head coach in Saif Alsafeer. The former Florida College soccer standout is in his first year at the helm and continues to look to solidify his program on the Florida colligate soccer landscape.
Scouting Nova SoutheasternNova Southeastern enters this week with a record of 3-2. The NCAA Division II Sharks have picked up key wins against Florida Southern, Mississippi College and St. Thomas and suffered defeat at the hands of West Alabama and the University of Tampa. The Sharks will take on Embry-Riddle this week before traveling to Ave Maria for their Saturday friendly.
Soma Gubacsi (Budapest, Hungary) has been the team leader in goals so far with 2.
Bailey Taylor (Greeneville, Tenn.) has gotten the start in goal in all 5 games for NSU and holds a save percentage of .815.
