Volleyball Falls To Warner In Three

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team fell to the visiting Lady Royals of Warner University on Saturday afternoon in three sets, 25-14, 25-15, 25-20. The Blue and Green drop to 11-6 overall and to 0-3 in TSC play.
 
Lexy Smith and Ashley St. Hubin led the Lady Gyrenes with seven kills and six kills, respectively. Lexy also added two blocks. Veronika Garcia and Lauren Ruby each had 10 assists while Ruby added four service aces. Garcia had a team-high six digs.
 
Angie Pagan-Perez recorded a match-high 16 kills for the Lady Royals while Andrienne Czaplewski and Breeanna Navarro each finished with double-figure kills with 12 and 11, respectively.  Jenna Swaffer tallied 38 assists. Thalia Mendez had 10 digs.
 
Tied 4-4 in the first set, Warner went on a four-point spurt to take an 8-4 lead on the Lady Gyrenes. The Blue and Green stayed within striking distance, 11-9, until a seven point run by the Lady Royals put AMU behind 18-9. Warner went on to win the set 25-14.
 
Ave Maria fell behind early in the second set, 11-5, but rallied to pull within one, 15-14, midway through the set. Warner responded with a seven-point run to take a 22-14 lead and went on to win the set 25-15.
 
Warner broke open a 6-4 lead to take a 12-4 advantage on the Lady Gyrenes early in the third set. Trailing 20-9, AMU rallied to pull within four, 22-18, before Warner went on to win the set 25-20.
 
The Lady Gyrenes return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Temple Terrace to take on Florida College at 7 p.m.
