Volleyball Travels To Lake Wales For Warner Invitational

AVE MARIA, Fla. ---
The Ave Maria volleyball team will play three games over two days this weekend at the Warner Labor Day Invitational. It's an early start of the Lady Gyrenes on Friday as they take on Florida National at 9:30 a.m. and Central Methodist at 11 a.m. They finish the weekend with a matchup against Dickinson State (N.D.) on Saturday at 4 p.m.

LADY GYRENES PREVIEW
 
The Ave Maria volleyball team is coming off a 4-0 weekend last week in which they finished first at the Edward Waters Invitational. The Blue and Green went 12-1 over the four games, dropping just one set in a 3-1 victory over Tougaloo (Miss.). AMU sits at 5-1 overall and have won five straight matches.
 
Lexy Smith has tallied 71 kills over the six matches and is attacking at a .367 clip. Bre Holder has 39 kills on the season, averaging just over two kills per set. In the back row, Monique Rivers has tallied 52 digs over 15 sets played for the Blue and Green.
 
SCOUTING FLORIDA NATIONAL
 
The Lady Gyrenes face a familiar foe in Florida National in game one of the weekend. The Blue and Green defeated the Lady Conquistadors in straight sets back on Aug. 15. Lexy Smith led AMU in that match in kills (12), service aces (4) and blocks (5). Lauren Ruby had 18 assists while Rivers added 18 digs.
 
Brianne Ballow was the top attacker for Florida National. She tallied seven kills while Katherine Vazquez and Angelica Mujica each added four kills.
 
SCOUTING CENTRAL METHODIST
 
Central Methodist is off to a 1-4 start to the season after going 1-3 at the Viking Invitational In Marshall, Mo. And then falling to MidAmerica Nazarene University in straight sets earlier this week. Outside hitter Darcy Lathan leads the Lady Eagles with 56 kills over 20 sets played this season. She also leads the team with four service aces.
 
Central Methodist went 13-17 a year ago. Last season, Lathan ranked 31st in the NAIA in service aces per game, averaging 0.46 aces per game.
 
SCOUTING DICKINSON STATE
 
Dickinson State comes in with a 0-4 overall record after dropping matches to Montana Tech, Corban, the University of Great Falls, and Montana State University-Northern last weekend. The Lady Blue Hawks won a combined three sets over those four games, including a five-set loss to Great Falls.
 
Freshman Sydney Bentz leads Dickinson State with 30 kills on the season while junior Brenna Hansen has tallied 28 kills. Danielle Boyette has totaled 98 assists to lead the Lady Blue Hawks.
