Lady Gyrenes Rally Against Florida College

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Lady Gyrene basketball team outscored Florida College 37-15 in the second half to rally past the Falcons 60-47. The win snapped a seven-game skid for AMU, as the Blue and Green improve to 6-8 on the season.
 
Annie Artise and Lauren Gillingham paced the Lady Gyrene comeback. Artise finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She also tallied four assists and four steals. Gillingham nearly finished with a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds.
 
AMU shot 38 percent from the field and made 10-of-25 from behind the arc. Florida College was led by Laurie' Beaty with 15 points while the team shot 40 percent from the field, making five of 20 from three. Toni Cox finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons.
 
The Lady Gyrenes struggled to get things going in the opening two quarter, falling behind 32-23 at the break.
 
With 7:30 to play in the third quarter and AMU trailing 37-25, Gillingham hit a three followed by back-to-back treys by Artise to pull the Lady Gyrenes within three, 37-34. Taylor Lindsey capped the 17-0 run, spanning over seven minutes with a three to put the Blue and Green in front 42-37 just before the end of the quarter.
 
The Lady Gyrenes led the entire fourth quarter to rally for the 13-point victory. The 13-point lead tied for the largest lead of the game by the Lady Gyrenes.
 
After shooting just 23 percent in the first half, AMU shot 59 percent in the second half, including making six of their eight three point attempts in the second half to complete the comeback.
 
Ave Maria returns to action on Saturday when they welcome Florida Memorial to Tom Golisano Field House for a conference contest. The game is set to tip at 2 p.m.
