MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team improved to 8-11 and 4-6 in Sun Conference play with a four set win at Florida Memorial on Tuesday night. After dropping the first set 21-25, AMU won the next three 25-21, 25-15, and 28-26 to take the match.

In the opening set, Ave Maria used a six-point run to take a 17-10 lead before the Lions responded with a nine-point spurt to retake the lead 19-17. With AMU up one, 21-20, Florida Memorial took the final five points of the set to win it 25-21.

AMU took advantage of 10 attack errors by the Lions in set two to even up the match at 1-1. After AMU saw its six-point lead reduced to one, 15-14, the Lady Gyrenes rolled off four-straight points to give them some breathing room. The Blue and Green went on to win the set 25-21.

It was all Ave Maria in set three. The Lady Gyrenes won 12 of the first 16 points to take a 12-4 advantage and never looked back eventually taking the set 25-15. AMU hit .273 in the third set with 13 kills to just four attack errors.

The fourth set was back-and-forth from the start and was still knotted at 10-10 midway through the set. Florida Memorial made the first run with five straight points to take a 19-16 edge. AMU was able to chip away at the deficit and eventually took the lead, 23-22, late in the set. After saving one set point, Ave Maria was able to convert their third match point to win the set 28-26 and the match 3-1.
