Ave Maria-Maryville Split Friday Doubleheader

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- After dropping game one of the doubleheader against Maryville, 4-2, the Lady Gyrenes came back to take game two 6-5 to move to 2-1 on the season.
 
Sadie Mosher pitched a complete game in game one, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over seven innings. She struck out seven in the loss. Kingsley Avery was 2-for-4 from the plate with one run scored to lead AMU.
 
Wendy Macias led Maryville in the circle, pitching seven innings and allowing two unearned runs on four hits and one walk. She struck out eight. Six different Maryville players recorded a hit.
 
The Lady Gyrenes got on the board first, scoring on a Maryville error in the bottom of the first. A few batters later, Braddy singled to center field to bring in Alyssa Colding to make it 2-0 AMU.
 
Maryville scored four unanswered runs to end the game. Maryville scored three runs on three hits in the top of the fourth before adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh on two hits.
 
In game two, Ave Maria scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cap their come-from-behind win.
 
Maryville scored first with a run in the top of the first. In the bottom of the second inning, Marissa Conde tied the game with an RBI single to the pitcher to score Colding.
 
After Maryville scored two more runs in the top of the fourth, Conde again tied things up in the bottom half of the inning with a two-RBI single to left plating Braddy and Stirtzinger.
 
Trailing 5-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh, Mosher singled to center to bring in Avery to pull AMU within one. A few batters later, Stirtzinger hit a walk-off two-RBI double to center field, scoring Mosher and Marinna Shadley to win it for the Blue and Green.
 
Stirtzinger finished game two 3-for-3 with a runs scored and two-RBI. Braddy and Conde each recorded multiple hits in game two. Conde finished with three RBI.
 
Gennifer Raulerson pitched six innings for AMU in game two, allowing seven hits and four runs, three earned. Katelyn Packard pitched the final inning for AMU and allowed one hit while picking up the win.
 
Ave Maria travels to Babson Park on Sunday to take on Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in doubleheader action. Game one is set to begin at 10 a.m.
