AVE MARIA, Fla. --- In a wild game that featured two grand slams, the NCAA DI Oakland Grizzlies edged the Lady Gyrene softball team 7-6 on Wednesday afternoon. Game two of the doubleheader was rained out after one inning of play. The Blue and Green drop to 10-3 on the season.

Genevieve Twigg put the Lady Gyrenes in front early, hitting an RBI double to left center to bring in Marinna Shadley in the bottom of the first inning.

After Oakland tied the game in the top of the second, the Grizzlies went up 2-1 on a RBI groundout in the top of the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Oakland hit a grand slam to put the Grizzlies ahead by five.

It didn't take AMU long to respond, as pitcher Sadie Mosher hit a grand slam of her own in the bottom half of the fifth to again pull Ave Maria within one, 6-5.

In the top of the seventh, Oakland added what ended up being the game-winning run on a RBI triple to make the score 7-5. In the bottom half of the inning, Shadley connected on pitch and sent it over the left field fence to cut the deficit to one. AMU had a chance to tie or take the lead later in the inning when they loaded the bases with two outs but weren't able to come up with a hit.

Mosher pitched the complete game and took the loss. She allowed seven runs, six earned, on seven hits and four walks. She struck out seven. She also finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and three runs scored.

Ave Maria returns to action on Friday when they travel to Miami Shores to take on Barry University. First pitch of the doubleheader is schedule to begin at 12 p.m.
