The Ave Maria University baseball team fell victim to the power of Indiana Tech, losing two games to the Warriors by scores of 11-4 and 15-6. The Warriors hit six home runs between the two games to move to
11-2 on the season. The Gyrenes dropped to 12-16.

GAME ONE RECAP:
The Gyrenes fell into a seven run hole in the first inning and never recovered, losing the opening game of the doubleheader 11-4. Ave Maria was outhit 10-4 by the Warriors, who belted three home runs.

Each of the first six hitters in the Warrior order reached and scored in the first inning. The scoring began on a double from Tighe Koehring, who singled to score Kyle Mead and Charlie Sipe. The next hitter, Peyton Newsom, belted a three-run homer to give Indiana Tech a
5-0 lead. A walk to Glen McClain then led to Mark Carpenter hitting his first home run of the season, putting Indiana Tech ahead 7-0.

The lead expanded to 9-0 in the top of the third, as the help of a pair of Gyrene errors allowed McClain and Keith Tatum to score on just one Warrior hit.

Ave Maria got on the board in the bottom of the third with a three-spot. Sean Trymbiski reached on an error, and RJ Warnock walked to put two runners on. Christian Sanchez drove in the opening run with a single. Conor Sullivan then followed with a high chopper to short, which was misplayed. The grounder scored Warnock to make it 9-2 Indiana Tech. A fielder's choice off the bat of Ryan Keegan plated Sanchez for the third run.

Indiana Tech's offense was completed in the sixth inning with another longball. Newsom hit his second homer of the game, his fourth of the season, to make it 11-3. His two-run shot plated Brian Hakes, who had reached on a walk.

The Gyrene scoring ended in the bottom of the sixth. Soto drew a leadoff walk, and scored on a bases loaded sacrifice fly from Trymbiski. Sanchez led the Gyrene offense with two of the team's four base hits.

Ave got a solid bullpen performance from senior righty Marshall Clutter, who worked a scoreless seventh inning. Starter Zack Rose lost his second decision, while Indiana Tech's James McReynolds moved to
2-0 on the year.

GAME TWO RECAP:

The early scoring continued for Indiana Tech in the nightcap, with six runs in the first inning providing a lead that lasted. The Warriors scored in every inning but the seventh to win 15-6.

The six-run first inning was led by a three-run triple from Mark Carpenter, who cleared the bases with two outs. Tighe Koehring and Peyton Newsom also drove in runs during the opening frame. Indiana Tech added more in the second on another home run, this one a two-run shot from Brian Hakes.

Indiana Tech plated two more runs in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth to take a 12-0 lead over the Gyrenes.

Ave Maria's scoring came in an explosive fifth inning, where the Gyrenes put six runs on the board, cutting the Warriors' lead in half.
Back to back walks to Sean Trymbiski and Max Nell started the rally, and Matt Wiles recorded one of his three singles. RJ Warnock brought in the first two runs, one on a fielder's choice and another on an ensuing error. Christian Sanchez was then robbed of an extra-base hit on a diving catch, but did record a sacrifice fly to score Wiles.
Conor Sullivan recorded an RBI single, and RYan Keegan finished the scoring on a two-run double.

The Warriors scored three runs in the sixth to finish the game's runs.
Two homers powered the scoring, as Branson Dossen and Hakes drilled roundtrippers.

Tyler Wells earned the victory for Indiana Tech and Tommy Craparo was charged with the loss.
