AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team dropped their final home series of the season on Sunday afternoon to the visiting Thomas Night Hawks. AMU fell 5-3 in game one before dropping game two 3-2.

Thomas jumped out to an early lead in game one, scoring twice in the top of the first inning on three hits and a walk. AMU cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third, getting a run on an Alyssa Colding single to plate Kingsley Avery.

In the fifth inning, AMU scored a pair of runs to take a 3-2 edge on the Night Hawks. The first run of the inning came on a Deanna Stirtzinger RBI single followed by a Brook Pierron RBI single.

Thomas tied the game at three in the top of the sixth to force extra innings and then scored two in the top of the 9th to take game one 5-3.

Emily Lemin started the game and pitched the first five innings, allowing two runs and six hits and two walks. Sadie Mosher took the loss, pitching four innings in relief and allowing three unearned runs on two hits and two walks. She struck out seven.                                                                                    Â

In game two, Thomas scored a pair of runs in the top of the fist before AMU scored a run in the third and a run in the fourth to come back to tie the game at two. The Lady Gyrenes' runs came on sac flies by Avery and Colding.

Thomas added a run in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 advantage.

Prior to the doubleheader, Ave Maria recognized its four graduating seniors.

AMU hits the road on Wednesday night for a neutral site doubleheader against Florida Southwestern State. The games are being played in Naples beginning at 5 p.m.
