MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team defeated St. Thomas 1-0 in game one behind Sadie Mosher's two-hit shutout performance in the circle before dropping game two by one, 2-1. AMU improves to 17-13 on the season with the split.

The Lady Gyrenes got the lone run of game one in the top of the first inning when Deanna Stirtzinger was hit by pitch with the bases loaded to plate Marinna Shadley.

Mosher took control of the rest of the game, pitching seven innings and allowing just two hits and no runs. She walked six and struck out four.

In game two, it was St. Thomas to get on the board first with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first. The Lady Gyrenes evened the game in the top of the third when Mosher singled in Kingsley Avery. The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when St. Thomas hit a walk off infield single.

Emily Lemin got the start in game two and when three innings and allowed one run. She allowed two hits and walked two while striking out three. Meghan Sullivan took the loss, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing one run. She walked two and struck out one.

Ave Maria returns to AMU next week when the host Broward in a pair of exhibitions on Friday and then resume TSC play with a home doubleheader against Webber International on Saturday.
