GEORGETOWN, Ky. --- The Ave Maria women's lacrosse team fell to two-seed Georgetown College, 19-8, in the NWLL South Region Tournament semifinals.

Alexis Smich finished with three goals for AMU on seven shots. She also had two caused turnovers. Abby Castro added two goals and had four ground balls while Mackenzie Tourville and Stephanie Hilker each netted a goal.

The Gyrenes were able to get on the board first thanks to an own goal by Georgetown a couple minutes into the game. Three straight goals by Georgetown gave the Tigers a 3-1 advantage. Smich then netted a goal to cut the deficit to one. After a Georgetown goal made it 4-2, Hilker found the back of the net to bring it to 4-3. Georgetown ended the half on a 5-0 run to take a 9-3 lead into the break.

After a goal by Castro to open the second half, the Tigers went on another run, scoring five-straight goals to extend their lead to 14-4. Smich added two more goals in the second half while Castro and Tourville each scored again in the second half to make it a final of 19-8.

Georgetown outshot AMU 40-23 and had 17 more ground balls than AMU, 29-12. Each team had 12 turnovers.
