Ave Maria, FL – The Ave Maria University women's soccer team took a loss to cross I-75 rival, Florida Memorial on Saturday afternoon. In a match that proved to be a defensive battle, shots were at a premium. The Lions netted one goal in each half to top the Lady Gyrenes by a score of 2-0.
Bianca Combe (Miami, FL) netted the first goal of the afternoon for Florida Memorial at the 17:37 mark, coming off a cross pass from Nina Torres (Miami, FL). In the second half it was Lovely Placide (Miami, FL) who scored, putting a rebound off of Ave Maria goalkeeper Francesca Singleton (Manchester, UK) into the back of the net. Sarah McBride (Peachtree City, GA) led the way in the shot category for AMU, putting one of her three attempts on goal.
The Lady Gyrenes will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Temple Terrace to take on Florida College.
