ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Ave Maria football team fell to 0-4 on the season after a 37-13 loss at Clark-Atlanta on Saturday night. The Blue and Green have a bye week next week before opening conference play on Oct. 8 at home against Warner.

The Panthers opened the scoring with a three-yard touchdown pass at the 8:55 mark in the first quarter. It didn't take long for AMU to respond, scoring on their first offensive play, when Kaleb Coffee completed a pass to Brian Byrd who took it 75 yards for a touchdown.

Clark-Atlanta came back with two touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 21-6 lead after 15 minutes. The Panthers added a touchdown and a field goal in the second to make it 31-6 at the half.

After 12 minutes of scoreless play in the third, Bob Orban was able to connect with Jordan Inoa for a 12-yard touchdown pass and catch to bring AMU within 18, 31-13. A pair of fourth quarter field goals by the Panthers made the final 37-13.

Orban finished 12-for-26 for 96 yards and a touchdown. He threw one interception and was sacked five times. Coffee threw just the one pass for a 75-yard touchdown. Coffee ran eight times for 19 yards with a fumble.

Byrd caught four passes on the night for 90 yards and a touchdown. Inoa finished with three receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown. Xavier Roberts also had three receptions.

Austin Cole led the Gyrenes defense with six solo tackles and nine total tackles including two for a loss. Andrew Wilson added six total tackles and also had an interception. Five other Gyrenes finished with six total tackles.
