Lady Gyrenes Take Down Falcons 62-55

Box Score TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. --- The Lady Gyrenes won their third straight game to improve to .500 on the season with a 62-55 win at Florida College tonight. AMU currently sits at 8-8 on the year as they resume conference play on Thursday at Florida Memorial.
 
Florida College maintained a slim lead for most of the first half but the Lady Gyrenes kept to within a possession or two and went into the half trailing the Falcons by two, 31-29.
 
After trailing for the beginning of the third, Macarena Corral converted a layup and one to give AMU a 37-35 lead with 3:48 to play in the quarter. After Florida College went ahead with a couple minutes to play in third, Ave Maria scored a pair of baskets in the final minutes to retake the lead 43-40.
 
AMU began to open up the game midway through the fourth and took a nine-point edge late in the quarter. However, Florida College wouldn't go away and began to rally with a couple minutes remaining and cut the AMU lead to four with just over a minute to play. The Lady Gyrenes stepped up their defensive effort in the final minute and converted a couple free throws to win it 62-55.

Macarena Corral led the Lady Gyrenes with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Lauren Gillingham finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. Sarah Miller finished with a team-best 10 boards.

AMU shot 52 percent from the field and held Florida College to 28.8 percent shooting. Florida College held a 29-13 advantage in turnovers and had nine more steals than AMU.
