MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting St. Thomas team on Thursday night, falling on the road 106-51. The Gyrenes return to action on Saturday when they host Webber at 4 p.m.
 
Deonte Dixon led AMU with 12 points followed by Tejai Allen who tallied nine points and 10 rebounds. Exor Torres and Josh Flowers added eight points for AMU.
 
The Gyrenes shot 27 percent from the field and were 9-of-28 from three. St. Thomas on the other hand, made 60 percent of their shots from the field and were 8-of-17 from behind the arc. The Bobcats also held a 28-11 advantage in points off turnovers and a 26-8 advantage on second chance points.
 
St. Thomas came out firing and jumped out to a 60-33 lead at the break before outscoring AMU 46-18 in the second half to close out the game.
