Game 1 Recap
Andrew Steele earned the win in game one, giving up just a lone run through four innings of work. Steven Valentine and Mason Dinesen led the way for the AMU offense that picked up right where they left off on Friday night, each notching three hits. Rico Soto added a big home run late to help put the game out of reach as the Blue and Green cruised to their second victory of the season, 15-4.
Game 2 Recap
Game two would prove to be a tight contest as Trinity Baptist plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning and held that 2-0 advantage deep into the ballgame. Ave Maria starter Christian Dufresne settled in and gave a quality start before senior right hander Austin Comesanas came in and kept the Eagles in check.
The Gyrene offense was quite until they were able to scratch a run across in the 6
th to pull within one run. With their backs against the wall, sophomore outfielder Nick Wydler belted a game tying home run to left center, bringing the game to a 2-2 tie.
In the extra frame, Rico Soto worked his way on via walk, stole second and eventually score on a bunt by fellow junior Andy Hernandez to push Ave Maria in front, 3-2.
Justin Bureau slammed the door shut in the 8
th after working out of a bases loaded jam in the 7
th to earn the win.
The Gyrenes return to action this coming Saturday for their home opener as Edward Water College comes to town for a three game series. Saturday is a scheduled double header with first pitch set for 11am to be followed by a single game on Sunday at 11am.
