LAKELAND, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team fell on the road on Saturday afternoon to conference leading and unbeaten Southeastern, 88-49. Southeastern used a 30-8 second quarter to take a 51-19 halftime lead on the AMU.

Lauren Gillingham led the Blue and Green with 16 points and six rebounds while Sarah Miller finished with 14 points and seven boards. Macarena Corral added eight points and five assists while Erin Koehler grabbed five rebounds.

Bailey Hooker led three Southeastern players in double-figures with 24 points. Alyssa Ramos finished with a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists. Christin Strawbridge nearly finished with a double-double with 18 points and eight rebounds. Sarah Green had six blocks for SEU.

Southeastern took advantage of 29 Lady Gyrene turnovers and turned those into 42 points while AMU was only able to create 10 points off 19 Fire turnovers.

The Lady Gyrenes shot 31 percent on the afternoon and were 2-of-14 from three. AMU was 11-of-15 from the free throw line. The 18th-ranked Fire shot 54.4 percent and made eight from behind the arc.

An 8-0 run to start the game by Southeastern put the Lady Gyrenes behind early and a 13-0 run to start the second quarter extended the AMU deficit to 23. Ave Maria went nearly six minutes into the second quarter before they got their first field goal of the quarter, a jumper by Gillingham make it 41-15 SEU.

The Lady Gyrenes began to get some shots to fall in the third quarter but couldn't cut into the Fire lead as Southeastern outscored AMU 19-18 in the quarter. An 18-12 fourth quarter advantage for Southeastern made the final 88-49.

Ave Maria returns to action on Thursday when they host Johnson & Wales in a conference tilt. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
