Men's Soccer Rolls to 10-0 Win at Johnson

Box Score KISSIMMEE, Fla- The Ave Maria University men's soccer team rolled to a 10-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon, overwhelming the Johnson University Suns in Kissimmee. It was the third time in school history that the Gyrenes scored at least ten goals in a match, all of which have come in shutout victories.

The action was at its heaviest in the first half, when the visiting Gyrenes scored eight goals. Hernando Valencia-Parra got AMU on the board early, scoring in the eighth minute on an assist from Alejandro Echeverria.

From there, Ave Maria went on a tear, scoring seven goals in just over twenty minutes. From the 14th minute to the 35th, Juan Carlos Bucaram logged the first hat trick of his career with goals in the 14th, 24th, and 28th minutes. Valencia-Parra added his second goal of the afternoon, while Eamon McQuade, Benjamin Koerner, and Echeverria each added single scores. Koerner also added an assist on the third of Bucaram's goals.

In the second half, the Gyrenes scored twice more in a short span. Freshman Nick Herrold scored the first goal of his career in the 67th minute, and Raphael Rodriguez added a tally of his own, his third of the season, in the 68th minute.

In the net, freshman John Turner recorded his first career shutout, keeping the Suns off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes. It was the second shutout of the season for the Gyrenes, which marks the first time since 2011 that Ave Maria has logged multiple shutouts in the same season.

Ave Maria plays three more matches away from home in the next ten days. The stretch continues in Sun Conference play on Saturday, when the Gyrenes head to Miami Gardens for a meeting with Florida Memorial University, which is set for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
