Campoe Scores in Women's Soccer Loss to USCB

HARDEESVILLE, S.C.- The Ave Maria University women's soccer team suffered a 9-1 defeat in Sun Conference action on Saturday afternoon, falling to the USCB Sand Sharks in Hardeesville, South Carolina. The Sand Sharks scored the first eight goals of the match, including twice in the first ten minutes.

USCB scored six goals in the first half, led by a hat trick from Hayley Pina. Pina, who also had two assists in the match, scored in the fifth, ninth, and 19th minutes. MJ Orduna added goals in the 14th and 43rd minutes, and Sarah Withers scored in the 31st minute. 

The Sand Sharks also scored the first two goals of the second half, as Rileigh Olsen and Anna Gignilliat tallied scores in the 55th and 64th minutes, respectively. 

Ave Maria avoided a shutout in the 68th minute of the match. Lauren Campoe scored an unassisted goal, her third of the season. Campoe has been involved in each of Ave Maria's last four goals, and has scored the last three.

Hannah Salus completed the scoring in the 79th minute on a goal assisted by Withers and Orduna. On the contest, USCB tallied 34 total shots, and put 21 of them on goal.

AMU goalkeeper Erica Larson added 12 more saves to her season total, giving the freshman 112 for the season. Larson's 112 saves are fourth in Ave Maria single-season history, and are 22 saves away from the school record with four matches to play.

Offensively, the Gyrenes took seven shots, with five going on goal. Brittany LaBombard led AMU with two shots on goal, while Campoe, Alexia Mazzoccone and Ally Williams took one shot each. USCB goalie Moa Johansson stopped four of the five shots in the win.

The Gyrenes are back at home on Wednesday afternoon, hosting the Lions of Florida Memorial University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The week concludes with Senior Day on Saturday, when the Gyrenes welcome the Bees of SCAD-Savannah to AMU Soccer Field.
