Men's Soccer Topped by Keiser

AVE MARIA, Fla.- The Ave Maria University men's soccer team lost their penultimate home match of the 2017 season on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Seahawks of Keiser University. Keiser outshot Ave Maria 21-7, and led for nearly 84 of the match's 90 minutes.

Thomas Dawson got the Seahawks on the board in the seventh minute. Dawson found the back of the net off a free kick from Joe Rivera, giving Keiser a 1-0 lead. Dawson scored again in the 27th minute, as Rivera again got it to him for a Seahawk goal.

Ave Maria pulled within one goal late in the first half, thanks to a goal from Juan Carlos Bucaram. Bucaram scored in the 41st minute for his sixth goal of the season, and allowed the Gyrenes to trail just 2-1 entering halftime. The senior's strike came on an AMU free kick. Bucaram took two of Ave Maria's four shots on goal, with the other two provided by Alejandro Echeverria and Matias Carbone.

Keiser pulled away with two more goals in the second half. Dawson completed a hat trick with his third goal in the 55th minute, which came on an assist from Randy Obiukwu. Obiukwu then added a goal of his own in the 89th minute of the match.

Goalkeeper Andrea Salomone played all 90 minutes in net for the Gyrenes, and logged seven saves. Several of Salomone's stops, which gave him 84 for the season, were acrobatic efforts to deny sure Keiser goals. Keiser goalies Lee Clark and Nicolas Gomez combined for three saves.

The 2017 season comes to an end for the Gyrenes on Saturday, when the Fire of Southeastern University come to AMU Soccer Field. The AMU soccer program will honor its senior class, which has helped the team to its winningest season since 2011 this year. Kickoff in Ave Maria is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
